1975 Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch Ref. 145.022-74 – Cal. 861 + Extract from the Archives & Papers

A beautifully preserved 1975 Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch, reference 145.022-74 ST, featuring the legendary manually wound calibre 861 chronograph movement, classic black dial and stainless steel bracelet. This attractive vintage example is accompanied by an official Omega Extract from the Archives, confirming its production on August 27, 1975, and original delivery to the United States. The watch also comes with an Omega international guarantee booklet and additional European dealer documentation, making it a particularly appealing example of this iconic chronograph.

The Speedmaster Professional holds a special place in watchmaking history as the watch selected by NASA for its manned space missions and famously worn during the Apollo lunar landings. The reference 145.022, introduced in 1968, marked the transition to Omega's robust calibre 861, a manually wound, cam-operated chronograph movement that would power the Speedmaster Professional for decades. This 1975 example belongs to the post-Moon-landing generation, retaining the classic asymmetrical stainless steel case, twisted lugs and distinctive tachymeter bezel that have made the Speedmaster one of the most recognizable chronographs ever produced.

The matte black dial features the traditional three-register chronograph layout, white printed scales and luminous hour markers that have developed an attractive warm patina. The matching luminous hands complement the overall vintage character of the watch, while the black tachymeter bezel retains clear, legible markings. The stainless steel case measures approximately 42mm and displays honest signs of age and use, with well-defined case contours, an Omega-signed crown and the familiar Hippocampus medallion on the reverse, surrounded by the historic NASA flight-qualified inscription.

Inside is the Omega calibre 861, a 17-jewel manual-wind chronograph movement with copper-coloured finishing, protected by the original-style inner dust cover. The inside caseback is correctly stamped 145.022-74 ST, while the movement serial number 31326XXX corresponds with the accompanying Omega archive documentation.

The watch is fitted with an Omega stainless steel bracelet, reference 1171 with 633 end links, a configuration also recorded in the official Extract from the Archives. The bracelet retains its Omega-signed folding clasp and exhibits normal wear consistent with its age.

Adding considerably to its appeal is the accompanying documentation, including the official Omega Extract from the Archives dated March 12, 2021, confirming the watch's original production date, reference, movement calibre, bracelet configuration and delivery destination. Also included are an Omega international guarantee booklet and a German jeweller's certificate recording an assessed value of €8,970. These additional documents complement the watch's history, although the later dealer valuation should not be confused with its current market price.
