A superb 1960s Heuer Carrera reference 2447T, featuring the distinctive silvered dial with contrasting red tachymeter scale and classic three-register chronograph layout. One of the most desirable variations of the early Carrera, the 2447T combines the elegant 36mm stainless steel case, sharply faceted lugs and beautifully balanced dial design that established the Carrera as one of the great motorsport chronographs of the 1960s.
Introduced in 1963 under the direction of Jack Heuer, the Carrera was named after the legendary Carrera Panamericana road race in Mexico. Its clean, highly legible dial was designed with professional drivers and timing enthusiasts in mind. The 2447T, with its distinctive red tachymeter scale, is a particularly attractive early execution, allowing the wearer to measure average speed over a known distance while adding a subtle touch of colour to the otherwise restrained silver dial.
This example features a beautifully preserved silvered dial with three recessed subsidiary registers, applied steel hour markers and matching luminous hands. The red tachymeter scale runs around the outer chapter ring, while the HEUER shield and CARRERA signature sit prominently beneath 12 o'clock. The dial displays attractive vintage character with light age-related patina, while retaining its crisp printing and elegant appearance. The stainless steel case retains its distinctive angular lugs and well-defined proportions, with signs of wear consistent with its age.
Inside is the celebrated Valjoux 72 manual-wind chronograph movement, a 17-jewel column-wheel calibre widely regarded as one of the finest chronograph movements of its era. The same movement family was employed by several prestigious Swiss manufacturers, including Rolex in its early Daytona chronographs. The movement is signed Heuer-Leonidas SA, and the inner caseback carries the corresponding Heuer-Leonidas markings. The case serial number 79XXX is consistent with the production period of the early Carrera 2447T models.
The watch is fitted with a high-quality black perforated leather racing-style strap, an attractive complement to the Carrera's motorsport heritage.
