English sterling silver J W Benson half hunter which is a well running watch in fine condition.
The movement is a sparkling mint condition 15 jewel 3/4 plate which has a lever escapement and is signed J W Benson. There are hallmarks inside the three covers for London and indicating 1936
J W Benson originated in 1847 and was founded by James William Benson and Samuel S. Benson who were regarded as one of London’s most prestigious retail jewellers during Victorian times. They also manufactured their own movements and their company boasted a clientele of British and European Kings, Queens and Princes including of course Queen Victoria and the Prince of Wales.
The sterling silver case has perfect blue enamel Arabic numbers on the front cover with no enamel missing. The case has a smooth plain finish with some slight unevenness to the back. The white dial is in mint condition and has hands with one being dual swell so as to be able to read the time without opening the case. Dial is signed J W Benson. The watch is 50 mm diameter and is stem set and stem wound.
This is an extremely collectable watch that you will enjoy wearing or adding to your collection.
