Antique 1900 Waltham 15-Jewel Silver Pocket Watch with Gold & Silver Locomotive Inlay

A substantial and attractive Waltham silver pocket watch dating to circa 1900, distinguished by its finely engraved railway locomotive scene to the rear cover. The locomotive is picked out in contrasting gold and silver inlay, creating a particularly effective period design with strong appeal to collectors of both watches and railway memorabilia.

The white enamel dial is clearly signed Waltham and remains in very good condition, with bold black Arabic numerals, an outer minute track, blued-steel hands and subsidiary seconds at six. There are a few very light hairlines around one o’clock, though these are difficult to notice without close inspection. The crystal is clear and free from cracks or chips.

The high-grade damascened movement is signed American Waltham Watch Co. and fitted with 15 jewels, a Breguet hairspring and safety pinion. It was reportedly serviced recently by the previous owner and is running well while keeping very good time. The screw-off front bezel allows access to the dial, while the movement is released through the pendant mechanism.

The substantial 0.925 silver case remains in very good condition, with firm hinges, a polished finish and only light age-related marks. The gold winding crown and bow provide an attractive contrast with the silver case. Measuring 58mm in diameter and approximately 20mm thick, the watch has an impressive weight of 153 grams.
