ENGLISH  J. W. BENSON sterling silver open faced pocket watch   in excellent running condition.  White enamel dial is in perfect  condition and signed. J.W.Benson, being one of the most prestigious watchmakers and jewellers of Victorian London and watchmakers to royalty.   The dial has  Black Roman numbers,  gold   spade pointers and subsidiary seconds at number six position as well as an outer  minute track make for this great looking dial. The watch has a stem winding 15 Jewel movement  made for J.W.Benson by Revue    The case is sterling silver and is fully  hallmarked on both the  back case and the inner movement cover.  50 mm is the diameter (2”).   The outer case is in good condition and is plain and smooth.   This is a very good looking vintage English Sterling pocket watch.  This is a watch  your man will enjoy wearing.

The watch comes with a  sterling silver chain at  29.5 cm long including the T-bar and the clasp.  The T-bar and clasp are hallmarked for Birmingham 1899 with a maker’s mark for the Birmingham silversmith Henry Pope.  Each of the links has the lion silver mark, and one has the HP mark again.  Silver fob has an open shield ready for initials.  Total weight is 35 g 

JW Benson originated in 1847 founded by JW Benson and Samuel W Benson.  They were regarded as one of Victorian London’s most prestigious retail jewellers, and they also manufactured their own watch movements.  The boasted an elite client base consisting of both British and European royalty and including the King of Siam, the King of Portugal, the king of Denmark, the Emperor of Japan, the Tsar of Russia and the King of Greece. JW Benson also supplied watches to Queen Victoria and the Prince of Wales.
