J W BENSON ENGLISH SILVER POCKET WATCH

JW BENSON antique STERLING SILVER  open faced pocket watch in fine running condition. Full and clear hallmarks for London 1891, late Victorian period.  This is a Swiss made key wind and key set watch movement and movement is signed J W Benson, BEST LONDON MAKE  62 & 64 Ludgate Hill, London BY WARRANT TO HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN 

JW Benson originated in 1847 and was founded by James William Benson and Samuel S. Benson who were regarded as one of London’s most prestigious retail jewelers during Victorian times.  They also manufactured their own movements and their company boasted a clientele of British and European Kings, Queens and Princes including of course Queen Victoria and the Prince of Wales. 

The signed  JW Benson, London white enamel dial is excellent with black Roman numbers and black spade pointers.  Sub seconds dial at number six position.  Seconds hand at number six position, 15 jewels.  The case is 50mm in diameter and was made in Britain by the Dennison Watch Case Company. It is sterling silver and in very good condition with the engine turned details still extremely crisp and a blank cartouche on back.  Watch movement is protected by an inner dust cover.  A very good looking and collectible pocket watch for your collection or to wear. Comes with a rare JW Benson original watch key.
