Here we have an open faced English lever man’s pocket watch from D.R.Simms, Chipping Norton, the original retailer. Just as a a side note, Chipping Norton is a market town and civil parish in the Cotswold Hills in the West Oxfordshire district of Oxfordshire, England, about 12 miles southwest of Banbury and 18 miles northwest of Oxford. The 2011 Census recorded the parish's population as 6,337.
This lovely example is a sterling silver hinged crown winding movement which is well running. The dial is excellent and is signed D.R. Simms, Chipping Norton. The watch is 50.5 mm in diameter and there are hallmarks inside both of the case backs for Birmingham 1905 with the makers mark WHS for English case maker William Henry Sparrow. The clean and sparkling movement has 16 jewels and is numbered and marked “Warranted English”. The case has some very light surface marking and a tiny ding to the back but in overall good condition for an over 100 year old watch. The fine white dial has black Roman numbers and blued steel hands and sub seconds. The Crystal has light surface marking from use and a small scratch at the bottom though very minor. Back of case has an open shield ready for initials. You will enjoy wearing this fine watch. Comes with a black velvet presentation pouch.
