J. W BENSON made this lovely open faced well running pocket watch in their Swiss factory. After which, the movement was sent back to England where it was cased. The top quality English silver case has hallmarks for London 1935 and was made to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of King George V in 1935. The movement is a good quality gilt 3/4 plate which has a lever escapement and is signed J W Benson, The watch is stem wind and stem set. The diameter is 51 mm. (2 inches).
The case is sterling silver and has a triple hinged inner, back and bezel. The case has beautiful King George V Jubilee hallmarks as you can see in photo. The perfect white enamel dial has blue steel hands and is signed J W Benson.
The original J W Benson box is larger than usual with a recess for the commemorative coin showing King George V and Queen Mary with a superb scene of Windsor Castle in high relief on the reverse.
JW Benson is a highly prestigious London jeweller who also made watches and by warrant were the watchmakers for HRH Queen Victoria. Overall a very rare and exceptional collectable or a watch you will enjoy wearing.
