ELGIN Railroad

ELGIN  BW Raymond gold filled railroad grade 21 jewel size 16 with Montgomery dial in fine running condition.  The beautiful white enamel dial is perfect and detailed with black and red enamel minutes surrounding this actual Montgomery dial.  Black Arabic numbers and black spade pointers enhance this dial.   There are no chips or hairlines.  Movement is a Model 15 grade  BW Raymond railroad with a lever set and pendant wind movement which is adjusted to 5 positions.  The center wheel and jewel cups are gold.  Case is in excellent condition and is 51 mm diameter without crown.

Lever set watches have a small lever located under the screw off bezel that when pulled out,  releases the time setting mechanism and locks in when pushed in again.  This was a device required by all railroad grade watches so that the time may not be accidentally changed if the crown is dislodged. This was a safety feature for accuracy in the late 1800’s after a famous train crash outside of Chicago.  This is a very fine watch for your collection or to use daily.
