Quick History - Omega, originally La Generale Watch Co, was founded in Switzerland in 1848 by Louis Brandt, who made precision pocket watches with parts sourced from locals. Louis' two sons then developed a revolutionary in-house system that allowed parts to be interchangeable. By 1903 the success of the Omega brand led to La Generale Watch Co to spin off the Omega brand as its own company. Since then Omega has been the choice of the British and US army, NASA, and as the Olympic Games official timekeeping device beating out Rolex, Heuer, and Breitling.
